ADVENTURE BEYOND SPORT. REDISCOVER | RESET | REVIVE
A Challenge The Wild Event for Retired Professional, Semi-Professional and Amateur Athletes.
Life After Sport Starts Here.
For years, sport has defined who you are.
The structure. The routine. The purpose. The identity.
From early mornings and training sessions to competition days and team environments, sport becomes more than something you do—it becomes who you are.
But what happens when it ends?
For many athletes, retirement from sport can be one of the most challenging transitions of their lives.
Whether retirement comes through age, injury, deselection or personal choice, many former athletes experience a profound loss of identity, purpose, belonging and direction. The support systems that once surrounded them disappear, daily routines change overnight, and the question many are left asking is:
“Who am I now?”
Challenge The Wild has created a unique event designed specifically to help former athletes navigate that transition.
Through adventure, challenge, connection and guided personal development, we help
individuals rediscover who they are beyond sport.
Why This Programme Is Needed
Research and lived experience consistently show that athletes leaving competitive sport can experience:
- Loss of identity
- Reduced self-worth
- Anxiety and depression
- Isolation and loneliness
- Loss of purpose
- Difficulty adjusting to civilian or corporate life
- Reduced physical activity and wellbeing
- Challenges rebuilding social connections
For many athletes, retirement is not simply the end of a career—it can feel like the loss of an entire way of life.
At Challenge The Wild, we understand this better than most.
Our team comes from military backgrounds, with many members having served long careers in the Armed Forces before transitioning into civilian life.
The parallels are striking.
Military personnel and athletes both dedicate years—often decades—to a singular purpose. They operate within high-performance environments, thrive on structure, camaraderie and challenge, and derive much of their identity from what they do.
When that chapter closes, the challenges can be remarkably similar.
The loss of identity.
The loss of belonging.
The search for purpose.
We’ve lived it ourselves! That’s why we’re passionate about helping others navigate their own transition and find a new path forward.
